Social bookmarking websites are an excellent way to build backlinks to your website. However, many webmasters still don’t understand the proper way to use them. There are a few things you need to understand to get value from a social bookmarking backlink. The Do-Follow Attribute

Regardless of anything mentioned in this article this is the most important part. The social bookmarking website cannot use the no-follow attribute in their outbound links. The whole concept of the no-follow attribute is to prevent Pagerank from being passed as well as link value. It has already been stated as recently as June 2009 by Google’s Matt Cutts that no-follow links do not get any value; this includes anchor text\keyword value. Below is a copy of this statement…

“Now let’s talk about the rel=nofollow attribute. No-follow is method (introduced in 2005 and supported by multiple search engines) to annotate a link to tell search engines “I can’t or don’t want to vouch for this link.” In Google, no-follow links don’t pass PageRank and don’t pass anchortext [*].

No-follow links definitely don’t pass PageRank. Over the years, I’ve seen a few corner cases where a no-follow link did pass anchortext, normally due to bugs in indexing that we then fixed. The essential thing you need to know is that no-follow links don’t help sites rank higher in Google’s search results.”

So, with these above statements we can fully accept that no-follow backlinks have absolutely no value in terms of search engine optimization. With this lesson we understand that the social bookmarking website must not utilize the no-follow attribute in their outbound links.

Tagging to Promote Indexing

One of the big issues with social bookmarking backlinks is they get completely de-indexed from search engine indexes. This is due to the fact of the hundreds of thousands of web pages that social bookmarking websites create and search engines won’t index many of them. This is usually because of the lack of inbound external and internal links to the web page.

Does your background consist of a color other than white?

If it does, you should seriously consider changing it. Most successful websites have a white background with purpose in mind, and that is because white backgrounds not only make it easier to see, but they also communicate emotions like purity, grace, tranquility, and cleanliness. They also help the lettering to really stand out, so try to keep your background white if at all possible.

As far as design goes, do you use a lot of bright colors?

If you do, then you might want to think about some other choices. Bright colors distract from the purpose of your site, and they also need time for your eyes to adjust to. You might not have a ton of bright colors, but if it is enough that you need to refocus your eyes just to read the letters, then you will probably lose traffic because of it. Instead of bright colors, think of dark blues, greens, grays, or other neutral colors like this. Then, have your logo be bright and “out there” for the biggest effect. If your entire page is bright pink, that is probably bad. But if your page is white and blue, with a big pink heart at the top with your logo on it, then it will be eye catching without being too distracting.

Is your website easy and friendly to navigate?
Does it offer controls that work well?
Can visitors successfully navigate about the page with little or no difficulty?

This Los Angeles based client is in the 1911 Pistol grip niche market. He needed a custom looking website with a blog look and feel. He was also in need of a custom logo. After much research and planning we created a customized layout to meet the clients needs. Stone Ground Breads is a kosher friendly bakery located in Agoura Hills, California just outside Los Angeles and was in need of a ecommerce and content rich website. We implemented one of the web’s top CMS and ecommerce solution for the client.
